Madras HC dismisses pleas challenging kumbabishekam at Rameswaram temple -2016

MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Thursday dismissed a batch of two writ petitions that challenged the kumbabishekam at the Lord Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram, scheduled to be held on January 20.

The petitioners S Pakshi Sivarajan and K Ramamoorthy filed the petitions on various grounds.,

Ramamoorthy claimed that a consecration committee had not been formed and the date had been fixed by political powers, not by the temple trust board, and that the day fixed for the ceremony was an inauspicious day.

Sivarajan pointed out that the idol of the main deity was in a damaged condition and performing consecration without correcting the same was against the Agama Sastra

Dismissing the petitions, the division bench of justices V Ramasubramanian and N Kirubakaran observed that the issues raised by the petitioners could not be examined on any judicially prescribed standards or parameters and so they dismissed the petitions.
